Hyundai’s most affordable car in South Africa gets even cheaper

Hyundai has revised the Grand i10 line-up in South Africa, dropping two models from the catalogue and cutting the starting price of the entry-level option by over R14,000.

Since its launch in August 2023, the Grand i10 has been sold in Cargo Panel Van, Motion, and Fluid trim levels across a total of eight specifications spanning six hatchbacks and two sedans.

The update has seen the Motion and Fluid rebadged as the Premium and Executive similar to the new i20, as well as the two range-topping hatchback derivatives cut from the line-up.

The starting price for the Grand i10 is now also pegged at R224,900, a welcome 6% lower than in June when the base model sold for R239,500.

Specifications

The base Grand i10 Premium brings a manual aircon with second-row vents, cloth/vinyl seating with red trims, a multifunction steering wheel, a touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four speakers, electric windows, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, ABS, two airbags, and 14-inch steel wheels with plastic covers.

Upgrading to the Executive sees the addition of an artificial leather steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver seat, cruise control, automatic headlights with LED daytime running lights, front fog lamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, and the choice of three two-tone paint options.

Performance

Two naturally-aspirated petrol engines are available in the Grand i10 range comprising a 1.0-litre or a 1.2-litre unit.

The 1.0-litre generates 49kW and 94Nm and pairs exclusively with a five-speed manual transmission for an average fuel consumption of 5.5l/100km.

The 1.2-litre churns out 61kW and 114Nm and connects to a four-speed automatic box in the hatchback while being available in both manual and automatic guises in the sedan. Fuel usage for this setup ranges from 5.5-5.9l/100km, depending on the chosen model.
