New GWM P300 – South African pricing and specifications

GWM has officially launched the new P300 in South Africa, which is a thoroughly updated version of the popular P-Series bakkie.

The P300 is currently available in three specifications with prices starting at R599,900.

Engine

The new P300 models are equipped with the same 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine found on the P500, which has never before made an appearance on the P-Series.

This powertrain generates a total of 135kW and 480Nm, which is transmitted to wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

The base LT units are available with either a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or four-wheel-drive (4WD) layout, while the flagship LTD is exclusively sold as a 4×4.

The RWD models have an average fuel consumption of 7.4l/100km, while the 4WD units register a higher consumption of 8.0l/100km.

Furthermore, the RWD LT can tow 3,000kg, while the 4WD models does up to 3,500kg.

Both versions of the LT can also carry 1,050kg in the load bin, though interestingly, the LTD has a lower carrying capacity than its peers with an official listing of 875kg.

The bakkie itself is 5,416mm long, 1,947mm wide, and 1,884mm wide, with a wheelbase measuring 3,230mm.

Features

The P300 has blockier, more muscular proportions than the P-Series, with a look more reminiscent of the P500.

Customers can choose from one of six colours, namely Black, Gray, Mars Red, Pittsburg Silver, Swarovski Blue, and White.

In terms of equipment, the LT comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, a full-size steel spare wheel, automatic LED headlights, daytime running lights, fog lamps, auto-folding side mirrors with indicators, rain-sensing wipers, side steps, a sunroof, roof rails, underbody protection, and a tailgate with a deployable step for getting into the back.

Inside, the GWM is fitted with a leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, push-button start, automatic airconditioning, leather upholstery, heated electronic front seats with six-way adjustability for the driver and four-way for the passenger, a wireless charger, front and rear USB ports, ambient lighting strips, six speakers, a 7-inch digital driver display, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice commands.

This is on top of safety and assistance functions such as six airbags, ABS, traction control, hill climb and descent control, trailer sway mitigation, tyre-pressure monitoring, adaptive cruise control, park-distance control, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, driver fatigue monitoring, blind-spot detection, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, a 360-degree camera, and Crawl Control (off-road cruise control).

The 4×4 LT features a rear differential lock, too.

The range-topping LTD, meanwhile, also has Trail Turn assist, front and rear diff locks, a front winch, a snorkel, a chassis-view camera, a roof power supply for accessories, red brake calipers, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and seven airbags.
