R500,000 price cut for the Ineos Grenadier in South Africa

Ineos is launching two new models for the Grenadier SUV in South Africa, significantly cutting down its price tag in the process.

The new additions are a commercial variant of the Grenadier that have an official price tag of R1,378,850, which is R338,250 less than the previous starting point of R1,717,100.

However, the price reduction is even more significant in practice, as the commercial status of the new models means that VAT-registered businesses are able to reclaim the tax after their purchase.

Doing so will lower the Grenadier’s sticker to R1,199,000, knocking an impressive total of R518,100 off the SUV’s asking rate.

Orders for the Grenadier Commercial will open on 1 May 2025, and customers can register on the company’s website to receive updates and express their interest for the new models.

Engines

The Commercial variants are identical to their passenger counterparts in all major aspects, including their engines.

This means consumers can choose between one of two different 3.0-litre turbocharged powertrains that run on either petrol or diesel.

The petrol units generate a total of 210kW and 450Nm, and have an average fuel consumption of 13.0l/100km.

The diesel models, meanwhile, produce less power and more torque with 183kW and 550Nm, and boast a better fuel stat of 9.5l/100km.

Both options come with a 90-litre fuel tank, which provides a range of between 692km and 947km.

Regardless of which version you choose, the Ineos uses an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a permanent four-wheel-drive system.

Both entries can tow up to 3,500kg, though the diesel can only support a payload of 760kg, while the petrol can manage 835kg.

Features

The Grenadier Commercial was created in response to customer demand and is officially categorized as a panel van, which becomes evident the moment you open the rear door.

The rear seats have been removed entirely to create a storage area with a flat floor, making it easier to slide in various objects.

The cargo area is 1,512mm long, 1,047mm tall, and 1,268mm wide, giving it a total volume of 2,088 litres.

Importantly, the distance between the wheel arches is 1,064mm, which is wide enough to accommodate a standard Euro pallet.

The heavy-duty flooring is water-resistant with drain valves, and there’s a metal barrier that separates the two front seats from the cargo area.

Other aspects of the 4×4’s design are unchanged, which means the Commercial is just as capable when going off-road.

It has a wheelbase measuring 2,922mm, a ground clearance of 264mm, and can wade through up to 800mm of water.

It also has an approach angle of 35.5 degrees, a break-over angle of 28.2 degrees, and a departure angle of 36.1 degrees.

All of these factors mean that the Commercial is well-suited to complement an off-road convoy that needs to carry a lot of equipment.

In terms of features, the Grenadier is fitted with LED headlights and daytime running lights, 17-inch steel rims with Bridgestone all-terrain tyres, a full-sized spare wheel, underbody protection, a protective skid plate for the fuel tank, two front and two rear towing eyes, roof rails, roof protection strips, and panels in place of the rear windows.

Inside, there’s a glove box and two cupholders for the occupants, as well as tie-down rings and stowage lockers in the cargo area.

The Ineos also features an overhead switchboard for optional accessories, two USB ports, front and rear 12V sockets, a large centre console with a rotary dial, Recaro seats, automatic climate control, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Pathfinder built-in navigation.

All of this is in addition to safety and assistance functions such as hill-climb and descent control, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, ABS, tyre-pressure monitoring, cruise control, and trailer stability assist.
