New Porsche 911 Turbo S in South Africa – Pricing revealed

Porsche has taken the covers off the new 911 Turbo S – the most powerful production series 911 to date.

The latest iteration of the iconic sports car is confirmed for South Africa, and the local pricing has already been disclosed.

In Mzansi, the new Porsche will be made available in two body styles – coupe and cabriolet – with prices starting at R5,558,000 and R5,827,000, respectively.

Pushing it up to 11

The new 911 features an uprated version of the brand’s 3.6-litre Boxer engine, which is assisted by not one, but two electric exhaust gas turbochargers.

The electric turbochargers (or “eTurbos”) form what Porsche refers to as its ‘T-Hybrid’ powertrain, which made its debut on the 911 Carrera GTS.

This system also uses a 1.9kWh battery and an integrated electric motor, all of which helps to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the drivetrain.

The upshot of all of this technical wizardry is that the new Porsche generates a staggering 523kW, compared to its predecessor’s 478kW.

It also boasts an impressive torque figure of 800Nm, which is distributed to all four tyres via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

As a result, the German supercar can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in a blistering 2.5 seconds before capping out at a top speed of 322km/h.

The automaker revealed that the new Turbo S went around the famous Nurburgring track in 7:03:92, making it 14 seconds faster than the previous model despite weighing 85kg more.

Other track fittings include a new active aerodynamic system with cooling air flaps and an active front diffuser, slightly wider rear tyres, ceramic composite brakes, and a new sports exhaust with titanium tailpipes.

The coupe version is sold as a two-seater by default, though the rear seats can be added at no extra cost.

The cabriolet, on the other hand, comes standard with a 2+2 seating configuration.

Regardless of the version you go for, the 911 will feature Matrix LED headlights, alloy rims, a leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, a digital driver display, automatic climate control, electric Sports seats, and an infotainment screen integrated into the dashboard.
