New R3.6-million Corvette Stingray goes on sale in South Africa – Photos

The high-performance Corvette Stingray has officially landed in South Africa.

Imported to our market via the CVH Auto Group, the factory-built right-hand-drive American supercar is one of the few models in South Africa not to feature any kind of forced induction, opting instead for a naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine.

This makes it one of only two cars in our country with this notable attribute, alongside another icon from the US of A – the Ford Mustang.

Prices for the Corvette start at R3,600,000, which is undeniably a hefty sum, but is significantly less than other ultra-exclusive supercars from the likes of Bentley, Lamborghini, or Ferrari, that can fetch sums as high as R13,550,000.

The Stingray’s price tag puts it in the same bracket as models like the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupe, and it has the stats to keep up with its rivals.

American V8 performance

Powering the Corvette is an enormous 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 petrol block, which generates an impressive 360kW and 630Nm.

It uses a mid-engine layout, placing the drivetrain behind the seats for optimal weight distribution and handling.

Gear changes are handled by an eight-speed automatic shifter, which sends power to the rear wheels.

As a result, the two-door racer can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in a lightning fast 2.9 seconds, and hit speeds of up to 296km/h.

Furthermore, the Stingray comes standard with the Z51 Performance Package in South Africa, which adds numerous enhancements to improve its performance out on the track.

This includes things like Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, retuned suspension, a new bumper and spoiler for better aerodynamics, a third radiator for improved cooling, larger brake rotors, and a electronic limited-slip differential.

A few of the equipment highlights on the Corvette include 19-inch alloy rims at the front, 20-inch alloys at the back, electric bucket seats with heating and ventilation, leather and suede upholstery, a leather Sport steering wheel with a flat bottom, automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, a 14-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.7-inch infotainment screen with wireless phone projection.

It is also available as a coupe and a convertible, with prices for the latter starting at R3,900,000.
