5 most expensive cars in South Africa

South Africa’s car market has experienced significant price increases over the past few years, with the average cost of even low-end models exceeding R200,000.

However, while the low end of prices has increased, it’s still a far cry from the most expensive cars available in the country.

Of course, these generally include vehicles available only to the wealthiest individuals who have no concern for practicality, maintenance costs, or fuel efficiency.

This is essential as running afoul of a porthole in a supercar is a sure way to rack up a repair bill more expensive than just buying a new, more affordable car.

However, it should be noted that there are some vehicles that are extremely expensive, but which require extra steps to purchase.

A prime example of this is trying to buy a Ferrari, which is more than just having a healthy bank balance.

Instead, an individual must first have a strong relationship with a dealership, a history of not reselling Ferraris after buying them, and other conditions that must be followed after the sale.

These include:

  • No tampering with or altering the bodywork
  • No ‘crazy’ paint jobs
  • No driving stunts that could besmirch the brand

Breach of these will land you on Ferrari’s blacklist and prevent you from ever buying another supercar from them again.

A common statement regarding the brand is that you don’t choose, Ferrari chooses you.

This is an extreme example of supercar exclusivity, as other brands are more willing to allow anyone with sufficient funds to make a purchase.
