December proved to be a fantastic end to the year for South Africa’s auto industry, and bakkie sales were no exception.
The Toyota Hilux dominated once again, as expected, with an impressive 2,979 units added to the year’s total.
This is according to a report by Cars.co.za, based on industry sales data from Naamsa.
Second and third place unsurprisingly went to the Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max, the former of which managed to crack 2k sales with a grand total of 2,236 units.
The D-Max was able to sell four digits last month with 1,549 sales.
In contrast to the top three, fourth place saw a major change with the VW Amarok moving up four spots from its November 2025 ranking.
The German bakkie sold an incredible 598 units – the best total it has achieved since the current-gen models launched back in 2022.
This meant that the usual fourth placeholder, the Mahindra Pik Up, moved down to fifth with its 512 sales.
The GWM P-Series came sixth with 465 units, while the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 landed in seventh place thanks to 407 customers.
Up next is the Nissan Navara in eighth place with 319 units, and the JAC T-Series in ninth with 188 sales.
Last but not least is the Foton Tunland, which closed out the top 10 with 157 showroom success stories.
In total, the top 10 bakkies sold a combined 9,509 units, representing 19.4% of the 48,983 vehicles sold in South Africa last month.
