New limited-edition Mitsubishi launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Mitsubishi has officially launched a new limited-edition model for the Outlander SUV in South Africa.

The Japanese carmaker is currently celebrating 25 years of the iconic SUV, which made its debut all the way back in 2001 with the Airtrek nameplate.

“The Outlander was one of the first real SUVs on the market and from day one the design concept perfectly combined a modern interior and exterior design with the best in all-wheel drive technologies and convenient seating for seven,” according to the company.

To mark the occasion, Mitsubishi has commissioned a special-edition version of the Outlander called the Edition 25.

“Edition 25 represents the evolution of a global SUV icon as it combines heritage with premium comfort and cutting-edge technology,” said Lerato Nonyane, General Manager: Product & Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.

The new model was developed for enthusiasts and collectors, and only 10 units have been set aside for South Africa, making it one of the most exclusive SUVs in the country.

“The Outlander has consistently been one of our most popular models, finding favour with South Africans who enjoy chasing the horizon.”

“The Edition 25 celebrates that success with a model that has been crafted for the next generation of explorers.”

Features

The Outlander Edition 25 has received numerous styling details to help it stand out on the road.

Inspired by the brand’s I-Fu-Do-Do (Authentic and Majestic) Japanese design philosophy, the SUV sports a new dynamic front shield grille with smooth and elaborate detailing, a more three-dimensional skid guard, and new ‘smoked’ taillamps.

The lower bumpers and B and C pillars have also been given a new hard-wearing black material finish.

It also has bespoke 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and an electric panoramic sunroof.

All the interior lamps have been upgraded to LEDs with a capacitive switch, and the seats are covered in premium leather.

The driver’s seat has eight-way electronic adjustability and has lumbar support and a memory feature.

Additionally, it has a Yamaha Premium Sound System with eight speakers, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, onboard navigation, and voice commands activated by the phrase “Hello Mitsubishi.”

Mitsubishi has taken the opportunity to redesign the centre console based on customer feedback, making the cupholder less obtrusive by locating it alongside the shift lever.

The gear level has been reworked to reduce the possibility of accidental operation, and the USB ports have been coverted to Type-C to improve charging speeds.

The wireless charger has also been improved for easier access.

Other features include a surround-view camera, a remote power tailgate with hands-free access, side mirrors that auto-tilt when reversing, a frameless rearview mirror, and sun shades for the rear side windows.

Engine

The exclusive Mitsubishi retains the 2.5-litre, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol engine used by its siblings, which generates 135kW and 245Nm.

This is paired with an “eight-speed CVT transmission” and the carmaker’s Super-All Wheel Control 4×4 system, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 8.1l/100km.

It has 210mm of ground clearance, and the electronic AWD system allows the vehicle to maximise grip by controlling power distribution to each wheel.

Six driving modes for Normal, Eco, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Mud are also included.

The South African pricing for the updated Mitsubishi Outlander series is as follows:
