New special-edition VW Polo GTI for South Africa – Pricing revealed

VW is preparing to launch a special-edition Polo GTI to celebrate 20 years in the South African market.

The model is expected to launch over the next few months as a major cosmetic upgrade on the existing version, with features to set it apart from the rest of the Polo line-up.

While an exact release date is not known, thanks to our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists, we do know that the special edition Polo will set buyers back R605,700 when it does arrive.

This is R19,900 more than the existing GTI derivative, and makes the Edition 20 the most expensive model in the Polo range.

Performance

The Edition 20 will feature the same drivetrain found in the current-generation GTI models.

As such, buyers can expect to find the familiar 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor under the hood, enabling the hot hatch to produce 147kW and 320Nm.

Its power is sent to the front wheels via its six-speed automatic transmission and sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 238km/h and burning through fuel at an average of 6.4l/100km.

Features

What sets the Edition 20 apart is its updated look, with upgrades for both the interior and exterior to mark its special-edition status.

Buyers will have the option to choose from one of three unique paint colours. These are Cristal Ice Blue Metallic, Kings Red Metallic, and Ascot Grey.

Along with these new colours comes a black roof, black exterior mirror housings, and special “20” front and rear door decals to signify the Edition 20’s exclusivity.

Further exterior upgrades include 18-inch Faro alloy wheels fitted as standard on this variant, and a rear diffuser in the Kings Red finish for both the Cristal Ice Blue and Ascot Grey options.

On the inside, drivers are treated to leather seats with red vinyl finishing and trim, door trim panel inserts, and special “20 GTI” dashboard decals.

A piano black dashboard and centre console is joined by floor mats with “20 GTI” embroidery and red stitching, while in the back, floormats are stitched in colour without embroidery.

Privacy glass has been installed from the B-pillar backwards and includes the rear glass.
