New limited-edition Range Rover for South Africa – Pricing and features
Jaguar Land Rover has announced that South Africa will be getting an ultra-limited-edition Range Rover model, inspired by the importance of local rare-metal production and limited to just five units.
The Range Rover SV Platinum Edition is meant to reflect the qualities of its namesake precious metal and celebrate the rich culture of the Limpopo province, where the rare metal is primarily mined.
Janico Dannhauser, Range Rover South Africa Brand Manager, said the Platinum Edition is a profound celebration of rarity.
“By blending the world-class sophistication of SV Bespoke with the rich, artisanal heritage of South Africa, we have curated a cultural heirloom,” he said.
“For five discerning clients, this edition represents the ultimate expression of South African luxury.”
These five clients will have to fork out a staggering R6,223,000, making it the most expensive Range Rover available in South Africa by more than R500,000.
Features
Land Rover claims it designed the Platinum Edition to echo the craftsmanship and finish found in jewellery, highlighted by its Platinum Satin colour and exclusive exterior styling package.
The limited-run model has been finished with silver chrome and graphite atlas inserts, and features exclusively detailed gold-script badges.
Completing the Platinum Edition’s unique look is a set of 23-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels, adorned with satin gold inserts.
The interior, which Land Rover claims has been inspired by the rich culture of Limpopo, is where a bulk of the luxury brand’s attention was focused.
The Platinum Edition’s interior features Perlino leather, paired with earth-toned Caraway leather to create a warm, tactile cabin feel.
Further accents include silver chrome finishes on everything from the gear selector to the seats, while natural cream Ash Burr veneer wood finishes can be found across several cabin surfaces.
Sheen satin-embroidered details that were inspired by traditional wooden block‑printing techniques adorn the Platinum Edition’s seats and scatter cushions.
To complete the interior, detailed and numbered treadplates were fitted to each of the five Platinum Edition SV units.
Performance
As with other SV models in the Range Rover line-up, the Platinum Edition features Land Rover’s powerful 4.4-litre turbocharged petrol V8 motor and eight-speed automatic gearbox.
This configuration produces 452kW and 750Nm, at a not-so-economical rate of 11.8l/100km, driving all four wheels to a top speed of 261km/h with an impressive 4.6-second 0-100 acceleration time.
Ensuring drivers enjoy its power, the Platinum Edition SV features electronic air suspension with Dynamic Response Pro, an electronic active differential with torque vectoring, and adaptive off-road cruise control.
