Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

The Toyota Hilux smashed it out of the park last month, selling a grand total of 3,362 units – the equivalent of 120 per day.

This is 887 more than the 2,475 units it sold in January, reinforcing the Toyota’s position as the best-selling bakkie in South Africa.

This is according to a report by Cars.co.za, based on industry sales data from Naamsa.

The Hilux’s strong performance also means that the gap between it and its main rival, the Ford Ranger, has widened, as the latter sold 2,091 units in February.

This was still more than enough for the Ranger to claim second place, placing ahead of the Isuzu D-Max in third with 1,951 units.

Fourth place was also unchanged, as the Mahindra Pik Up delivered a solid result with 1,003 purchases.

A Chinese bakkie, the GWM P-Series, came fifth with 559 units, which was followed by the VW Amarok with 401.

The Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Navara then came seventh and eighth with 381 and 376 units, respectively.

The JAC T-Series took ninth place with 246 sales, and the Foton Tunland closed out the top 10 thanks to 182 customers.

In total, the top 10 bakkies sold a combined 10,552 units, representing 19.7% of the 53,455 vehicles sold in South Africa in February.
