New Isuzu mu-X launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Isuzu has updated the mu-X for South Africa, adding new features and safety equipment, and refining the powertrain selection.

The Japanese carmaker stated that the improvements to the 2026 Model Year are meant to elevate the Adventure SUV’s strengths, enhancing its comfort, convenience, fuel efficiency, and reliability.

The new mu-X is available in six specifications, and price start at R752,300.

Engines

The engine selection is unchanged with a choice of either a 1.9-litre or a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine.

However, Isuzu stated that the 1.9-litre powertrain, available on the base LS, has been refined for smoother power delivery and improved fuel efficiency.

Its output is unchanged at 110kW and 350N, but it achieves an average fuel consumption of 7.0l/100km, which is fairly economical for a vehicle of this size.

The 3.0-litre units, meanwhile, produce a total of 140kW and 450Nm while averaging 7.6l/100km.

In all cases, the mu-X is sold with a six-speed automatic transmission. The key difference is that the base LS is rear-wheel-drive only, while the 3.0-litre units are available in either 4×2 or 4×4 configurations.

New features

Isuzu has added new features across the mu-X range, starting with Headlamp Welcome Lights for all models.

This activates the low beam and parking lamps when the car is unlocked, effectively improving security and convenience in low-light situations.

Owners can adjust or disable this setting through the vehicle’s infotainment screen as they see fit.

The LSE and Onyx trim levels have received a new hands-free tailgate, a 9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch driver display, and a 360-degree camera system.

The suspension has been improved with larger-diameter shock absorbers, and the new range-topping Onyx XT benefits from gloss black accents, red interior ambient lighting, and exclusive XT badges.

The Onyx also comes with intelligent adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and an intelligent speed limiter.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the 2026 Isuzu Mu-X series is as follows:

This includes a 5-year/120,000km and a 6-year/90,000km service plan.
