Cheaper 7-seater Chery Tiggo 8 Pro launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Chery has launched a new entry-level model for the seven-seater Tiggo 8 Pro, cutting the SUV’s starting price by a considerable amount.

Our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists alerted us to the fact that a new Tiggo 8 Pro model has been added to Chery South Africa’s lineup.

The new derivative is called the LS, and it has a starting price of R499,900.

This makes it the first Tiggo 8-badged model to cost less than R500,000. It also represents a R30,000 price reduction over the previous base model, the Executive +, which starts at R529,900.

Engine

The new LS is fitted with the brand’s 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol (TGDI) engine, which develops 145kW and 290Nm.

This is the same engine used by the Executive +, achieving an average fuel consumption of 7.2l/100km.

It is front-wheel-drive, and uses a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

For reference, the more expensive Tiggo 8 Pro Max units are equipped with a more powerful 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which produces 187kW and 390Nm.

Features

The LS has a different appearance from the rest of the Tiggo 8 models, with a simplified black front grille that curves down from the headlights to the lower bumper.

Despite its lower price tag, the new Chery still comes with 18-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, automatic LED headlights, and LED daytime running lights and taillights.

Other features on the SUV include keyless entry and start, an artificial-leather multifunction steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, artificial-leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charger, and two 12.3-inch screens for the driver and infotainment.

Safety fittings then include tyre pressure monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, six airbags, rear parking sensors, and a surround-view camera.

The South African pricing for the updated Chery Tiggo 8 Pro series is as follows:

This includes a 5-year/150,000km warranty, a 5-year/60,000km service plan, and a 10-year/1-million km engine warranty valid for the first owner.
