The pricing for the new Kia Seltos has been uncovered ahead of its imminent launch in South Africa.
The new version of Kia’s mid-range crossover, the Seltos will once again be made available with three engines, including both petrol and diesel options.
According to our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists, the Seltos will feature five trim levels – the LS, LX, GT-Line, X-Line, and GT Line S – with prices ranging from R389,995 to R614,995.
What to expect
Kicking things off is the LS, which is fitted with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that develops 85kW and 144Nm.
Buyers have a choice of either a six-speed manual or a CVT transmission, which sends power to the front wheels. The manual achieves an average fuel consumption of 6.2l/100km, while the CVT is slightly higher at 6.4l/100km.
The same engine is offered on the mid-range LX and GT-Line, though the latter can also be had with a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel motor (CRDi).
The diesel unit has an identical power output of 85kW, but considerably more torque at 250Nm. It is also front-wheel-drive, but uses a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Unsurprisingly, one of the main benefits of the diesel engine is its lower fuel consumption, as it uses a frugal 5.3l/100km. The penultimate X-Line trim is also equipped with this engine.
Last but certainly not least is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit (1.5T-GDi), which is reserved for the top-of-the-range GT-Line S.
This is the most powerful of the three drivetrain options, generating 119kW and 253Nm, which connects to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic shifter.
Kia has yet to confirm the full spec sheet for each derivative; however, our information from Duoporta indicates that the LS will come with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and daytime running lights.
It also features a multifunction steering wheel, cloth and artificial leather upholstery, automatic air conditioning, a digital instrument cluster, and an infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice commands.
Safety and assistance functions include stability control, ABS, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, six airbags, rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera.
The higher trim levels will then add features such as keyless entry and start, leather upholstery, climate control, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a head-up display, front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, and lane-keep assist.
