New Toyota Land Cruiser 300 launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Toyota has officially launched a new hybrid model for the Land Cruiser 300 in South Africa, adding a powerful new option to its flagship SUV series.

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) said that two new models are joining the proven 3.3-litre diesel derivatives, starting with the ZX specification, which is available immediately. A top-spec GR-Sport (GR-S) option will be added later this year.

“The Land Cruiser has always represented the pinnacle of Toyota’s engineering capability, trusted by families, explorers, conservationists and businesses alike,” said Glenn Crompton, Vice President of Marketing at TSAM.

“The introduction of the new HEV demonstrates that customers no longer have to choose between legendary capability and modern electrified performance. It is another important step in Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy, offering customers the right technology for their individual needs.”

TSAM stated that the ZX will exclusively be offered with the hybrid powertrain. “The updated line-up also sees the ZX offered exclusively with the new hybrid powertrain, while the GX-R and GR-S diesel derivatives continue in the range.”

However, the company still listed the pricing for the standard diesel and petrol units. These units will presumably continue to be sold until the company runs out of stock, after which the hybrid will be the only available drivetrain for the ZX.

Hybrid power

The new Land Cruiser is equipped with a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine paired with Toyota’s hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) system.

The result is a combined output of 341kW and 790Nm, giving the hybrid the highest power and torque of all the available powertrains.

This is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which connects to all four wheels. Thanks to the electric assistance, the hybrid achieves an average fuel consumption of 10.0l/100km.

“The Land Cruiser 300 HEV also features a waterproof AC inverter beneath the centre console, providing an external power supply of up to 1500W,” said Toyota.

“This allows users to power various devices or serve as an emergency power source in the event of a disaster.”

For reference, the 3.3-litre turbo-diesel units produce 225kW and 700Nm while consuming 8.9l/100km.

The non-hybrid 3.5-litre turbo-petrol models, on the other hand, generate 305kW and 650Nm while having the highest fuel consumption at 12.1l/100km.

TSAM is also introducing minor updates across the LC300 range, including a refreshed colour palette with Magnetite Black and Classic White paint jobs, and interior colour improvements.

“Whether tackling demanding terrain, towing heavy loads or covering vast distances in comfort, the latest Land Cruiser continues to set the benchmark for capability, durability and prestige.”

This includes the brand’s standard 3-year/100,000km warranty and a 9-service/90,000km service plan. The hybrid units also receive an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty.

All new Toyota vehicles are equipped with connectivity hardware, enabling in-car WiFi with a complimentary 25GB data allocation.
