Hyundai launches Elantra N – A powerful new sedan

Hyundai has unveiled the new Elantra N.

This sporty version of the Elantra features an aggressive design, a familiar N engine, and the blue paint job that has become synonymous with Hyundai’s N cars.

Acceleration

The engine fitted to the Elantra N is the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder motor found in the i30N – however, the power has been raised to 206kW and 392Nm.

With Grin Shift mode activated, the Hyundai’s overboost function then temporarily increases the maximum power to 215kW.

This engine can be connected to either a six-speed, rev-matching manual transmission or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic – which sends the power to the front wheels.

0-100km/h happens in 5.3 seconds, thanks to its integrated drive axle which helps with both acceleration and cornering.

Handling

To improve the handling of the sedan the Elantra N is fitted with a limited slip differential, which manages the power sent to the wheels whilst minimising understeer.

The Elantra N receives a stiffer chassis, too, and stiff rear bars are also added.

Braking is improved as well, as the 14.1-inch rotors receive upgraded brake pads and improved cooling.

19-inch rims, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, then come equipped to provide the necessary grip.

Interior

The interior of the Elantra N has also received a sporty treatment to ensure it stands out from the crowd and provides a top driving experience.

Sports seats and an upgraded steering wheel are fitted as standard, along with a digital instrument cluster and infotainment system.

This system includes a 10.3-inch touchscreen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

“Hyundai Motor’s high-performance N brand constantly aims to provide customers with a range of exciting choices for increased driving pleasure. Elantra N is the purest expression of our mission to date,” said Till Wartenberg, Head of N Brand Management at Hyundai.

Availability

TopAuto contacted Hyundai to find out if the Elantra N is coming to South Africa, but had not received a reply by the time of publication.
