The price of fuel is coming down this month and the average motorist will therefore spend anywhere from R50 to R80 less on their next trip to the pump, depending on the size of their vehicle’s tank.
August will see a reduction of inland prices of R1.32 per litre for all grades of petrol, and between 88-91 cents per litre for diesel.
These price decreases will take place from Wednesday, 3 August.
The inland price for petrol 95 was previously sitting at R26.74 a litre in July, while a litre of diesel 50ppm would set you back R25.40.
With the aforementioned reductions, the inland price for petrol 95 will now be R25.42, while diesel 50ppm will cost R24.52 per litre.
What you’ll save
Considering petrol cost under R20 a litre in January, this month’s reduction unfortunately only makes a modest improvement to the month-on-month fuel price spikes, which were largely brought about by inflation and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine putting the brakes on global oil production.
As such, South Africans are still paying exorbitant amounts of money to fill up their fuel tanks in August, despite not paying as much as in July.
