New JAC T6 double cab – Pricing and specifications

JAC Motors South Africa has announced a new addition to its T6 bakkies series with a TDI double-cab powered by a 2.8-litre engine.

The new vehicle is offered in both a rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configuration, with a starting price of R349,900 and R399,900 respectively.

Adding to the existing 1.9l and 2.0l powertrain offerings, the new engine is a response to customer feedback, with demand being particularly driven by motorists from remote parts of South Africa and from neighbouring countries, according to JAC South Africa’s CEO Karl-Heinz Göbel.

New power

JAC’s latest vehicle utilizes a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine with an inter-cooled turbocharger to produce a total of 68kW and 210Nm.

This is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox in the case of the 4×2 model, and a six-speed manual on the 4×4.

As a result, the 4×2 will consume an average of 7.9 litres of fuel per 100km, while the 4×4 has a combined cycle of 10.5l/100km.

On the four-wheel-drive variant, owners can switch between 2H and 4H with the push of a button while doing up to 80km/h, and a low-speed 4L mode with torque amplification is also included.

The 4×4 has an approach angle of 29.6 degrees, a break-over angle of 23.5, a departure angle of 22.4, and a ground clearance of 179mm, too.

Regardless of which driving layout is chosen, the T6 boasts a 1,520mm long rear tray with an anti-scratch and anti-corrosion bed liner, which is certified to carry up to 900kg, while the bakkie itself is also capable of towing a maximum of 2,000kg.

The new JAC further features a double-wishbone independent front suspension with coil springs which suppresses body roll, leading to better handling performance and safety and passenger comfort, said the company.

In terms of features, owners of the new T6 can expect 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, electronically adjustable mirrors, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution, rear parking sensors, and two airbags.

Inside, the JAC also comes with a height-adjustable leather multifunction steering wheel, leather seats, manual air conditioning, electric windows, a reverse camera, USB port, and a Bluetooth Radio.

Pricing

With the addition of the two new 2.8-litre models, there are now a total of four cars in the T6 catalogue, including the 2.0l VVT Lux and the 1.9l TDI Comfort.

The full price list for the JAC T6 range is as follows:

Each purchase includes a 5-year/150,000km warranty and a 5-year/60,000km service plan.
