17 car brands in South Africa got more expensive this July – What you’re paying now
This July, 17 automotive brands in South Africa raised the prices of their vehicles.
For some, this was due to their models being due for minor updates, and for others, it was a result of a mid-year review in pricing, our informant over at Duoporta vehicle information specialists confirmed.
Car prices are adjusted at random throughout the year for a number of reasons, which generally include inflation, raw material costs, new model features, the model lifecycle, profitability margins, and competitor comparisons.
During the most recent round of price revisions, the vehicle with the biggest increase was the Maserati Grecale, with an average price hike of 18% which saw R340,000 added to the price of the entry-level GT and R370,000 added to both the mid-range Modena and top-end Trofeo.
However, what you may not have expected is that a few prices also went down, with one affected model being the Audi A5 40TFSI which saw a drop of R4,800 for both the Sportback and Coupe body styles.
Another notable finding is the fact that the country’s favourite ride, the Toyota Hilux, now comes in at a smidge over R1 million for the top-spec Legend RS model.
