Jaguar E-Type 60 Collection – A limited-edition beauty

On 15 March, Jaguar will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the E-Type.

The car was an instant sensation from launch and has remained nearly unattainable ever since.

For this remarkable event, Jaguar Classic will create six limited-edition matched pairs of restored E-Type cars.

Jaguar has completely restored six coupe models and six roadster models, and these will only be sold in pairs.

The E-Type 60 Edition coupe, as it will be known, is finished in Flat Out Grey – whereas the roadster is painted in Drop Everything Green.

These colours were inspired by the original 1961 colours, and won’t be used on any other Jaguar.

The 60 Edition cars will also be identifiable through unique design and mechanical elements that were developed by Jaguar design director, Julian Thomson.

Under the hood, a 3.8-litre, 6-cylinder XK engine produces 198kW and benefits from a 1961-style alloy radiator.

It is connected to a 5-speed manual gearbox with enhanced cooling, and gets a Jaguar Classic infotainment system with built-in satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.

Visually, the most discerning element is an engraving on the centre console by the artist King Nerd, which recalls the drive routes from Coventry to Geneva for those original vehicles.

Each piece of art takes more than 100 hours to create by hand, and is done in consultation with the owner.

For the coupe model, the route taken by Bob Berry in the original E-Type is plotted, with an overhead sketch of the car along with the words “I thought you’d never get here”.

This pays homage to the reaction of Jaguar founder, Sir William Lyons, to Bob’s arrival just minutes before the unveiling.

For the roadster, the route was taken by a man named Norman Dewis, and also features a sketch of the car along with the words “Drop everything and bring the open top E-Type over”.

In addition to the centre console, the bonnet badge, clock face, fuel cap, and chassis plate are all finished with a commemorative E-Type 60 logo featuring the years “1961-2021”.

A beech-rimmed steering wheel, mirroring those from the 1961 cars, features a 24-carat gold horn push and every car is supplied with a tailor-made car cover, tool roll, and jack storage bags.

In 2022, the six customers who buy these pairs will take part in the ultimate E-Type adventure.

They will be doing a Coventry to Geneva drive experience with their cars, enjoying great scenery, amazing roads, and exclusive accommodation.
