The VW Polo Vivo was the best-selling hatchback in South Africa in February 2024 with 1,861 examples finding new owners.
This figure also made the Vivo the second-best-selling passenger car in the country last month after the Toyota Corolla Cross, though its sales have dropped from the more than 2,000 units sold in January.
The Suzuki Swift was able to repeat last month’s success and beat the Toyota Starlet to achieve second place, continuing the brand’s sales success story that saw it break another record at the start of the year.
The Swift sold 1,627 units, while the Starlet in third place moved a respectable 1,481 units.
Fourth place then saw a change with the Hyundai Grand i10 moving up a spot with 1,263 units, while the VW Polo dropped down to fifth with 988 units, meaning only four hatchbacks sold more than 1,000 units in February.
The Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Vitz are still in sixth and seventh place, but the Hyundai i20 was able to beat the Suzuki S-Presso this time with the two placing eighth and ninth, respectively.
Finally, the Renault Kwid was the last model to crack the top 10 with 280 units purchased.
Taking a holistic look at the segment, the top 10 hatchbacks accounted for 9,368 sales last month, equating to 20.9% of the 44,749 vehicles sold in South Africa.
