You need to earn around R65,000 per month to afford a Ford Ranger on a finance plan in South Africa in 2026, according to a calculation by TopAuto

The Ford Ranger is one of the most popular vehicles in the country, selling thousands of units every month, though its price has increased significantly over the last few years.

The current-gen models were introduced in late 2022, with prices starting at R486,000 for the base double-cab units.

Fast-forward to mid-2026, and the Ranger now starts at R593,700 for a single cab, R624,900 for a double cab, and up to R1,307,300 for the halo model Raptor.

Comparing the two base double cabs, the Ford’s price tag has increased R138,900 in less than four years.

The bakkie series received a major update earlier in 2026, introducing a new EcoBoost petrol engine with 222kW and 452Nm, while removing the 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel units.

The entry-level single, super (extended), and double cab models are all fitted with a 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel block that develops 125kW and 405Nm, which is sent to the rear wheels by either a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Raptor has an exclusive 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine with 292kW and 583Nm, four-wheel-drive, and special Fox rally suspension, representing the best of what the Blue Oval has to offer.

There’s also a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel block with 184kW and 600Nm found on high-end options like the Wildtrak.

Equipment on the base Ranger units starts with halogen headlights, 16-inch steel wheels, a full-sized spare wheel, vinyl upholstery, a multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control, four speakers, an 8-inch driver display, and a 10-inch vertical infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

They also come with safety and assistance features including ABS, hill assist, traction control, six airbags, cruise control, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.

Moving up through the trim levels will then add various nice-to-haves, such as LED headlights and daytime running lights, alloy rims, leather upholstery, heated seats, a wireless phone charger, a Bang & Olufsen stereo, ambient lighting, paddle shifters, and a larger driver display and infotainment screen.

The high-end Rangers also have a longer list of driving aids, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera.
