4×4 SUVs competing against the new Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max in South Africa

Chery has launched the new all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of its Tiggo 8 Pro Max flagship in South Africa at a starting price of R731,900.

Up to now, the Tiggo 8 Pro family was exclusively front-wheel driven, with the AWD model now assuming the headlining position of the Chinese automaker’s local portfolio,

The SUV is motivated by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 187kW and 390Nm, which is transmitted to both axles via a seven-speed automatic gearbox, netting an average fuel consumption of 8.7l/100km in the process.

It has space for seven passengers, and the boot can accommodate 117 litres of luggage with all the seats up, or up to 739 litres when the rear bench is folded.

In terms of features, you can expect automatic LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, two 12.3-inch displays for the driver and media, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, dual-zone climate control, a fragrance system with three scents, a 10-speaker Sony stereo, 64-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, and quilted leather seats with heating and ventilation.

Additionally, the Chery is equipped with assistance items including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic congestion assistance, intelligent evasion assist, a 360-degree camera, a driving view recorder, a smart driver monitor, and front and rear park-distance control.

Each unit is sold with a 5-year/150,000km warranty, a 7-year/90,000km service plan, a 5-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance plan, and a 10-year/1-million-kilometre engine warranty.
