New Kia Seltos – What you get for R468,000

The updated Kia Seltos has arrived in South Africa, revitalizing the look of the crossover while adding new features to the eight-model line-up, which now starts at R467,995.

Even with all these changes, the entry-level Seltos LX is actually R5,000 cheaper than the outgoing models, owing to how the latter was only available from the mid-spec EX trim and upwards.

From the consumer’s point of view, it’s now possible to buy the stylish crossover for roughly the same price as before while getting far more in return, making it an exciting option for anyone looking for a mid-range family car in South Africa.

What you get

The facelifted Seltos has access to three different powertrains, starting with a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that generates 84kW and 144Nm.

This connects to either a six-speed manual or a CVT transmission if you’re willing to pay another R25,000 for the latter, and fuel consumption works out to an average of between 6.5-6.8l/100km.

It’s also worth highlighting that the LX trim is available with a six-speed automatic gearbox and a 1.5-litre, turbo-diesel block, but this adds R54,000 to the base price.

If you choose this engine, you can expect an output of 85kW and 250Nm, as well as a lower fuel usage of 5.5l/100km.

The third engine, a 1.5-litre, turbo-petrol with 118kW and 253Nm, is reserved for the flagship GT-Line.

Equipment that is standard to all models includes a leather multifunction steering wheel, keyless entry, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 4.2-inch digital driver’s display, an 8-inch infotainment monitor with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, cruise control, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and six airbags.

Outside, the facelift has given the Seltos a revised front end with automatic LED headlights and daytime running lights, a larger grille, and a restyled bumper.

Its alloy wheels now start at 16 inches and the rear LED headlamps connect horizontally as part of the carmaker’s “Star Map” signature lighting profile.

There are seven colours to choose from –  Pewter Olive, Aurora Black Pearl,  Gravity Grey metallic, Imperial Blue metallic, Sparkling Silver metallic, Glacier White Pearl, and Intense Red – the latter two of which can be had with a two-tone black roof.

Every model comes with a 5-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and a 5-year/90,000km service plan.
