New VW Polo Sedan flagship – What you get for R455,000

VW has launched a new flagship model for the Polo Sedan in South Africa, bringing with it a more powerful engine.

The popularity of sedans has waned over the last few years as crossovers have taken their place as the body type of choice for most consumers, but the sleeker design still has its appeal for certain motorists.

The current iteration of the Polo Sedan was first launched in late 2022 in base and Life trim levels, with a total of three options on offer which all shared the same 1.6-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine.

However, buyers can now select a turbocharged motor and the new range-topping Style trim for the best possible experience, all for the sum of R454,900.

What you get

The new Polo gets its power from a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol plant producing a total of 85kW and 178Nm – 4kW and 26Nm more than the 1.6-litre units.

This powertrain is exclusively mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox connected to the front wheels, netting an average fuel consumption of 6.3l/100km in the process.

As for its feature list, the range-topping Style is tricked out with all the bells and whistles you can get on the Polo Sedan, starting with automatic LED headlights and daytime running lights, front fog lamps, rain-sensing wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels with a unique “Tritz” design, a 15-inch space-saver spare wheel, and a styling package adding chrome accents to components like the grille, air vents, and door mirrors.

The longer Polo is also sold in five colours with one solid option – Candy White – and four metallic appearances for Wild Cherry Red, Carbon Steel Grey, Reflex Silver and Rising Blue.

On the equipment front, you’ll receive a leather multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, two-tone leatherette upholstery, keyless entry and start, a panoramic sunroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a wireless charging pad, automatic climate control, an 8-inch digital driver display, a 10-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, eight speakers, and USB ports.

This is on top of safety items including ABS, tyre-pressure monitoring, hill assist, six airbags,  rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and electronic stability control.

Also worth highlighting is the sedan’s large boot, which has room for 521 litres of baggage.

Every VW Polo Sedan comes with a 3-year/120,000km warranty, and a 3-year/45,000km service plan.
