The cheapest bakkies you can buy in South Africa

There are a lot of bakkies on South Africa’s roads.

They are popular among buyers as their ruggedness handles our troubled road network better than most, and they offer more practicality than an SUV.

They are bought to do work, to take the kids to school, to carry a lot of luggage on road trips, and – sometimes – purely for the sake of having one.

If the bakkie bug has bitten you, too, you’ll be happy to know they are also easy to come by.

There are a few hundred options spread across the various manufacturers in South Africa, and prices start from around R200,000. If you’re willing to drive around in a single-cab, that is.

To provide an overview of what is on offer, we have selected several of the cheapest new bakkies for sale from a range of brands – with both single-cab and double-cab vehicles eligible – and listed them below.

We have excluded purely “workhorse” vehicles which are not typically a viable option for someone who wants their bakkie to be a daily-driver, too.
