The Toyota Hilux has retained its crown as the bakkie of choice for South African motorists with a total of 2,435 units making their way out of dealerships in June.
This is a small improvement of 68 units from the month prior, helping it secure a comfortable lead over the runner-up – the Ford Ranger.
The Ranger is still performing well as the country’s second favourite bakkie, though its sales saw a noticeable dip from 2,216 to 1,868 units between May and June.
Isuzu, in contrast, experienced a tremendous uptick in registrations, going from 1,282 to 1,794 units, securing the third position as the last model to clear over 1,000 sales.
Fourth place was once again occupied by the Mahindra Pik Up series with 829 customers, and the Nissan Navara managed to overtake the Toyota Land Cruiser to nab the fifth spot with 505 purchases.
A surprise entry on the list once again is the discontinued Nissan NP200, which pulled in 476 new owners thanks to excess stock that the automaker built up prior to its cancellation in April, landing it right behind the Navara.
Next is the premium VW Amarok with a total of 334 units, followed by the Land Cruiser which returned to its normal placement in the latter half of the top 10 with 270 sales.
The final two entries are the GWM P-Series with 162 units, and the Peugeot Landtrek with 137 units – the latter of which may be seeing a boost in popularity now that it is confirmed that it will be locally built in South Africa within the next two years.
