The Toyota Hilux sat comfortably at the top of the rankings as the best-selling car in South Africa in June, having moved 2,435 units.
While car sales as a whole saw a considerable year-on-year dip of 14%, the Hilux managed to improve on its numbers from the month prior by a small amount, and other models still saw a good number of customers as well.
The VW Polo Vivo managed to overtake the Ford Ranger to become the second best-seller, seeing 2,325 sales compared to the latter’s 1,868.
Isuzu also had a good month with the D-Max jumping up two spots to fourth with its 1,794 customers, while the Toyota Corolla Cross rounded out the top five with 1,578 units sold.
Chery was another big winner in June, achieving sixth place by virtue of the Tiggo 4 Pro’s 1,172 sales – which was just one more than the Toyota Starlet which consequently dropped down to seventh.
Not far behind was the Suzuki Swift with 1,073 showroom victories, making it the last model to shift over 1,000 units in June.
The Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Grand i10 were the last two entries in the top 10, with 972 and 948 purchases, respectively.
Looking at the top 15, there was a tie with the Nissan Magnite and VW Polo, which both found 902 new homes.
The Mahindra Pik Up in 13th was the fourth bakkie to make it onto the list with 829 units, and the newly launched Haval Jolion and Toyota Prado had a great opening month with 736 sales for the former and 694 for the latter.
The remainder of the top 20 then consisted of the Suzuki Fronx (620), Kia Sonet (542), Toyota Vitz (542), Hyundai i20 (529), and Nissan Navara (505).
All put together, the top 20 models sold a combined 22,156 units, or 47% of the 46,603 vehicles purchased in South Africa in June 2024.
