High-end bakkies competing against the exclusive new Isuzu D-Max 45

Isuzu has launched a new limited-edition version of the fan-favourite D-Max in South Africa.
Known as the 45, the new model is meant to celebrate the brand’s 45 years of producing bakkies for the local market.
Based on the LSE derivative, the 45 offers several unique features and visuals and clocks in at a starting price of R906,100, making it the third-priciest model in the range.
It makes use of the carmaker’s 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine pumping out a total of 140kW and 450Nm, which is paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox, netting an average fuel consumption of 7.9l/100km.
Power is then transmitted to a four-wheel-drive system with a diff lock for tougher terrain, and the bakkie supports a maximum towing capacity of 3,500kg and a payload limit of 995kg.
Setting it apart from its siblings, the D-Max 45 sports a gloss-black grille, distinctive 18-inch alloy wheels, and Isuzu decals; as well as an exclusive 45-year commemorative badge on the tailgate.
It also comes with automatic LED headlights, skid plates, mud flaps, side steps, and a bespoke Rhinoman X-pedition canopy with red decals.
There are five paint schemes to choose from: Biarritz Blue, Desert Orange, Islay Grey, Mercury Silver, and Splash White.
Inside, the double cab has Bundu Basher rubber floor mats and partial leather upholstery, as well as a new wireless charging pad.
Other equipment comprises a multifunction steering wheel, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, eight speakers, and a 9-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Expanding on this, the Isuzu features front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, ABS with brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, and trailer-sway control.
Every D-Max 45 is sold with a 5-year/120,000km warranty and roadside assistance plan along with a 5-year/90,000km service plan.
