Major petrol station franchise in hot water in South Africa
TotalEnergies is in hot water with the Advertising Regulatory Board (ARB) of South Africa following a complaint from a local consumer.
The petrol company recently ran a promotional campaign including a statement that read TotalEnergies is “committed to sustainable development and environmental protection.”
The consumer wrote to the ARB claiming that this is a false and misleading claim, and the ARB has subsequently instructed its members to not accept any advertising from TotalEnergies with this wording.
New VW Polo Vivo launched in South Africa
VW has officially launched the updated Polo Vivo in South Africa, adding new features to the popular hatchback.
The Vivo’s pricing is unchanged, as it still retails from R266,600.
The line-up includes five models, each of which has received an expanded equipment and safety list.
BMW’s Chinese partner pumps R1 billion into South Africa
Yanfeng Plastic Omnium, a component manufacturer partnered with BMW, has announced it is investing R1 billion in South Africa.
The firm will mainly create exterior components for the BMW X3, which is locally produced in Rosslyn outside Pretoria.
The initiative is expected to create over 300 new job opportunities in Gauteng, which will primarily be targeted at the youth.
Uber and Bolt drivers in South Africa announce 4-month protest schedule
The Western Cape E-Hailing Association (WCEA) has announced that its members will embark on monthly protest action until December.
The organization represents drivers on popular apps like Uber and Bolt, who are unhappy with the treatment they’ve experienced under the e-hailing companies.
WCEA’s members are planning to go offline for one day each month until the end of the year as a form of protest.
New R1.2-billion Toyota parts factory for South Africa
Ogihara South Africa is planning to develop a new body part manufacturing plant that will supply components to Toyota.
Ogihara is a new joint venture between Toyota Tsusho Africa and Ogihara Thailand.
The project is backed by a R1.2-billion investment and will be built in KwaZulu-Natal.
