First look at South Africa’s newest Chinese car brand – Photos

South Africa has officially welcomed its newest Chinese car brand with the launch of Jetour.

The automaker recently held a glamorous event in Sandton, Gauteng where it debuted the first two of many cars it has planned for our market – the Dashing and the X70 Plus.

The Dashing has a starting price of R439,900, while the larger X70 Plus goes for at least R454,900.

Welcome to the stage

The Dashing and the X70 Plus are powered by the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 115kW and 230Nm.

The powertrain is mated to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 7.8l/100km.

The main difference between the two SUVs comes down to their seating arrangement, as the Dashing has the usual five spots while the X70 Plus can take up to seven passengers.

Both cars share a similar spec sheet and model line-up, as each model is sold in Momentum and Deluxe derivatives for a total of four Jetour options at launch.

Regardless of which option you go for, the exterior is fitted with automatic LED headlights, taillights and daytime running lights, as well as 19-inch alloy wheels, an electric tailgate, and auto-folding side mirrors.

The base Momentum trim comes standard with  keyless entry and start, black synthetic leather upholstery with red stitching, a leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, a six-way electronically-adjustable driver’s seat, a front armrest with heating and cooling functions, ambient lighting, automatic climate control with rear vents, a 50W wireless charger, four speakers, four USB ports, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, and a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Chinese SUVs also include rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, front and front-side airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, electronic stability control, traction control, ABS, hill assist, and cruise control.

Those who are considering the top-end Deluxe units can additionally look forward to heated side mirrors with welcome light projections, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof with a shade, six speakers, eight-colour ambient lighting, side curtain airbags, blind spot detection, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera.

In terms of customer support, Jetour already has a network of over 40 dealerships in South Africa, and each model is bundled with a 5-year/150,000km warranty and a 5-year/60,000km service plan, with an additional 10-year/1-million kilometre engine warranty for the first owner.
