Hyundai does a pretty good job of keeping its vehicles up-to-date for the South African market, as evidenced by the fact that only one model hasn’t received any major attention since 2021.
The Korean automaker sells no fewer than 12 different cars within our borders, covering the spectrum from entry-level hatchbacks to midsize SUVs and premium people carriers.
Most of these cars have been a big hit with consumers, as Hyundai is consistently the fourth best-selling brand in the country behind Toyota, VW, and Suzuki.
A large part of this success is due to Hyundai’s fairly regular roster updates, either by introducing a new model or by significantly contributing to its existing catalogue.
A case in point is that the Santa Fe is the oldest badge in the current lineup having last received a facelift in 2021, making it three years of age.
The next-gen Santa Fe has already gone on sale overseas, but it remains to be seen whether the new version will be brought here considering the new business plan that the carmaker is following.
For those out of the loop, Hyundai has been on a trend of downscaling this year, leading to price cuts for its most popular models like the Grand i10, i20, Venue, and Creta.
At the same time, the company no longer plans to introduce the refreshed i30 and Kona in South Africa, meaning the versions introduced in 2022 may be the last ones for the foreseeable future.
The manufacturer confirmed that the 2022 Creta will get a facelift next year, but has not said whether the Tucson, Grand Creta, Staria, or Venue from the same year will receive similar treatment.
The more recent selection includes the flagship Palisade, which was revamped in early 2023 and followed by the new Grand i10 later that year.
As for 2024, the i20 hatchback was revisited in July, and the newest addition to the Hyundai family is the entry-level Exter crossover, which appeared in September.
