These were the five biggest stories in South Africa’s transport industry this week.
South Africa’s diesel ban is coming
South Africa is planning to ban the sale of diesel with a sulfur content higher than 10 parts per million (ppm).
The impending ban is the result of environmental regulations aimed at reducing the harmful emissions produced by diesel with a high sulfur level.
Despite this, the cheaper diesel 50ppm and 500ppm are not expected to disappear anytime soon.
The heavy-duty Ford Ranger that could be coming to South Africa
Ford has unveiled an even tougher version of the popular Ranger bakkie known as the Super Duty.
The Super Duty is a sub-series that was previously exclusive to the larger F-150 but is now being introduced to the Ranger for the very first time.
The model is currently unconfirmed for our market, but is going on sale in Australia and will be built in Thailand similar to many other Blue Oval products we have in South Africa.
Ford also filed a trademark application for the badge in the domestic market in 2021 which was “accepted with conditions” by the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission.

This is the new Jaguar – and you might not like it
Jaguar has revealed its new brand identity to mixed public reception.
The legacy automaker is adopting an all-electric strategy and moving away from its current stable of V8 sports cars.
The company has also showcased its new logo, which will replace the growling cat on the front of its models.
