Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

Bakkie fans were out in force this May, purchasing thousands of units across a variety of different brands.

To no one’s surprise, the Toyota Hilux is still holding onto its crown as South Africa’s favourite pickup, moving a grand total of 2,548 examples last month.

Naturally, the Ford Ranger wasn’t far behind, as the American model sold an impressive 2,147 units.

The Hilux and the Ranger were the only two bakkies to clear the 2,000 mark, as third place went to the Isuzu D-Max with 1,473 purchases.

After this came the Mahindra Pik Up, which found 786 new customers in May.

Fifth place, meanwhile, saw the return of the Nissan Navara, which moved up two spots thanks to 389 sales.

This meant that the GWM P-Series dropped down to sixth with its 348 units, managing to tie with the Toyota Land Cruiser and its identical 348 units.

Eighth place then went to the VW Amarok, which sold 282 units, and the Foton Tunland G7 secured ninth place with 216 units.

The last spot in the top 10 also saw a change, as the Peugeot Landtrek dropped out in favour of the JAC T-Series, which sold a combined 162 units.

Overall, the top 10 bakkies sold 8,699 units, accounting for 19.19% of the 45,308 vehicles sold in South Africa last month.
