The Citroen C3 Aircross is the only seven-seater SUV that you can purchase for less than R400,000 in South Africa.

Car prices have shot up over the last few years, and one of the biggest casualties of this surge has arguably been seven-seater SUVs.

The segment is understandably popular with families that need a car capable of transporting children and their friends, but there are very few options can are still affordable for most households.

Right now, the point of entry is the Citroen C3 Aircross, which costs a minimum of R375,900 if you desire a version with more than the standard five chairs.

In the case of the Citroen, the range-topping Max trim is offered with a “5+2” layout that adds two extra seats in the rear.

Unfortunately, the two extra spots occupy the same space as the boot, which means you’ll need to fold them flat if you hope to store anything in the French car’s 511-litre luggage compartment.

What’s included

The Aircross is fitted with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which produces a total of 81kW and 205Nm.

This is connected to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox, resulting in a combined fuel consumption of 6.3l/100km.

In terms of its design, the C3 features slim chevron-style LED daytime running lights and a set of 17-inch alloy rims.
