Omoda and Jaecoo are killing it in South Africa

Omoda and Jaecoo are performing incredibly well in South Africa, bringing in record-breaking sales.

The Chinese car brand, often referred to as “O&J,” recently announced that it recorded its best sales month to date in June 2025.

According to the Naamsa’s latest industry performance report, O&J moved a combined total of 1,009 new vehicles last month.

This is the first time that Omoda and Jaecoo have sold more than 1,000 units in a 30-day period, pushing the brand into new territory.

“Crossing the 1,000 mark is more than a milestone – it shows that South Africans are responding to something fresh, exciting and relevant,” commented Hans Greyling, General Manager for Omoda & Jaecoo South Africa.

“We’re incredibly proud of what the teams and our dealer network have achieved.”

By far and away the most popular vehicle last month was the Omoda C5, which sold 478 units.

That works out to 43.49% of all the O&J cars sold in June, which isn’t too surprising given that the C5 is also the company’s most affordable model.

The C5’s share is even greater when you factor in the X Series, which is essentially the facelifted version of the crossover.

The X Series sold 215 units, which brings the C5’s combined sales up to 693, or 63.05%.

Jaecoo’s numbers are more straightforward, as the brand currently offers a single SUV in the form of the J7.

The J7 was also a popular choice in June, selling 150 units.

It’s also worth noting that O&J launched the new C9 SHS and J7 SHS last month, which got off to a good start with 36 and 80 units, respectively.

It was undoubtedly a good month for the Chinese duo, but the brand has been performing well since the start of the year, as shown in the table below:

What’s still to come

Omoda and Jaecoo aren’t slowing down anytime soon, as both carmakers have at least one new car lined up for this year.

Omoda plans to launch the new C7 in the second half of 2025 which, as its name implies, will split the difference between the C5 and C9 in terms of size and cost.

The C7 is another SHS (Super Hybrid System) model, which combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor to produce 255kW and 525Nm.

It also has an 18.3kWh battery, allowing it to drive 90km on nothing but electrons.

Jaecoo, meanwhile, is bringing in a new entry-level SUV called the J5, which will act as the counterpart to the C5 crossover.

The J5 is essentially a smaller, more affordable version of the J7, featuring near-identical styling.

It uses the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the C5, which generates 115kW and 230Nm.

Both the Omoda and Jaecoo are generously equipped for their respective segments, offering things like a digital driver display, a large infotainment screen, and a panoramic sunroof.

Neither car has been given an official release date, but they should both appear sometime in the third quarter of 2025.
