Best-selling cars under R300,000 in South Africa

The VW Polo Vivo was the budget car of choice for motorists in South Africa in June 2025.

The small hatchback sold a grand total of 1,962 units last month, making it the fourth most popular car in the country.

Importantly, the Vivo is the first car on the list to cost less than R300,000, making it an ideal choice for cash-strapped consumers.

Surprisingly, the second most popular budget option was the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, which sold 1,538 units.

After this came the Hyundai Grand i10, which moved 1,484 examples in June.

Next up is the Suzuki Swift, which came first the month prior, but only managed to place fourth this time around with 1,466 units.

The final entry in the top five is another Suzuki, namely the Fronx crossover, which sold 1,112 units over a 30-day period.

Sixth place went to the Toyota Starlet with 852 purchases, followed by the Suzuki Eriga people carrier in seventh with 840 sales.

The sub-R200,000 Toyota Vitz then came eighth with 794 units, and the final two spots in the top 10 were taken by the Nissan Magnite and the Kia Sonet.

The Magnite found 774 customers in June, while the Sonet shipped off 742 units.
