Beautiful old Porsches you can buy in South Africa – and how much they cost

The prices of vintage Porches soared in the 2010s, shortly after the 911 model celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013.
Due to the car’s polarising designs, Porsche did not have as large a fanbase as its Italian rivals during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
This meant that buyers did not care much for models built during or before this time – as the equivalent Ferrari or Lamborghini was seen as being much more prestigious.
Prices fell and second-hand vehicles stocked up globally, until the release of the 991 generation of the 911 Carrera in 2011.
The company had always created well-engineered sportscars, and now they finally had the looks to match.
They ironed out the creases in design and marketing, creating an instant success.
The 991 appealed to fans and non-fans worldwide, turning many of the latter into the former.
Pre-1999 examples then became much more appealing, and pricing for older models rose as a result.
The market
South African motorists have not been immune to the rise of Porsche, meaning prices for second-hand models are high locally.
There are many used Porsches on sale, however, which means there is a wide range of options on offer – starting at the price of a new hatchback, and going all the way up into the multi-million rand figures.
