It seems that South Africa’s appetite for bakkies cannot be satisfied, as more than 10,000 examples made their way off the showroom floor this October.
As always, the Toyota Hilux was the number one choice for consumers, selling an impressive 3,553 units this time around.
There were a few big changes last month, however, as the Isuzu D-Max overtook the Ford Ranger to claim second place, selling 2,292 units to the latter’s 2,035.
The Mahindra Pik Up is still in fourth place thanks to 761 sales, but another surprise is that the VW Amarok moved up to fifth place with 481 purchases.
Similarly, the Nissan Navara is now in sixth with 462 units, which means the GWM P-Series has been pushed down to seventh place with its 441 units.
Up next is the Toyota Land Cruiser 79, which had 414 sales victories last month.
The Foton Tunland G7, a relative newcomer in the local bakkie scene, is performing well in ninth place with 225 sales, and the GWM Steed closed out the top 10 with 198 units, knocking out the JAC T-Series in the process.
In total, the top 10 bakkies sold a combined 10,862 models, accounting for 19.41% of the 55,956 vehicles sold in South Africa last month.
