Best-selling cars in South Africa

The South African automotive industry sold a staggering 54,896 cars this November, working out to 1,829 per day.

As expected, the top performer last month was the Toyota Hilux, which contributed 3,383 units to the nation’s total. This is according to a report by The Citizen, based on NAAMSA data.

Not too far behind is the VW Polo Vivo, which holds the title of South Africa’s favourite passenger car thanks to 2,862 sales.

Right on its tail is the Suzuki Swift, which sold 2,364 units.

The Ford Ranger came fourth with 2,292 sales, and the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro managed to break into the top five with 1,838 units.

Outside this exclusive club, we have the Isuzu D-Max in sixth with 1,673, and the Toyota Corolla Cross in seventh place with 1,651.

Two more budget-friendly options, the Toyota Starlet and Hyundai Grand i10 with 1,619 and 1,486 purchases, respectively.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser then closed out the top 10 thanks to 1,325 customers.

Looking at the top 15, the Suzuki Fronx came 11th with 1,176 sales, which was followed by the Haval Jolion with its tally of 1,132.

A pair of Toyota models, the Starlet Cross and Vitz, sold 1,085 and 899 units, and the Nissan Magnite came 15th with its 815 showroom victories.

The last five names to make the top 20 include the Kia Sonet, Omoda C5, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Pik Up, and VW Polo, which added 778, 777, 763, 737, and 720 to the industry scoreboard.

Taking a holistic look at these figures, the top 20 cars sold a combined 28,075 units, representing 51.14% of the 54,896 vehicles sold in South Africa last month.
