The cheapest double-cab bakkie from every car brand in South Africa

The cheapest double-cab bakkie you can buy in South Africa is the JAC T6, which starts at R359,900.

Bakkies are one of the most popular vehicle types for good reason, as they are practical and well-suited for navigating our roads and the beautiful South African landscape, from SAN Parks like the Kruger to remote farms in the Karoo.

Newer pickups are also pleasant all-rounders that as as nice to drive in town as they are in the bush, and there’s a wide variety of models to choose from.

There are 17 different car brands in South Africa that offer a double cab, which is the most popular configuration for private households.

Prices start with the R359,900 JAC T6, but other relatively affordable options include the R399,900 Foton Tunland, the R413,849 Mahindra Pik Up, and the R446,950 GWM P300.

A new face in town is the R449,900 Changan Hunter, which arrived in early November.

A pattern you may have picked up on is that all of the aforementioned models are Chinese, barring the Indian Mahindra, which speaks to the affordability of these brands compared to legacy names like Ford, Toyota, or Isuzu.

Those names will set you back anywhere from R528,800 to R620,000 these days, even though the Hilux, D-Max, and Ranger are all locally made.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the most expensive double cab in the country is the Ineos Quartermaster, which will set you back R1,799,500.
