Best-selling used cars in South Africa right now – With pricing

South Africa’s used car market sold a staggering 33,705 units in November 2025.

While this marks a small year-on-year and month-on-month decline of 3.6% and 6.5%, respectively, the sector is nevertheless in a good position with strong overall demand.

The Ford Ranger retains its title as the country’s favourite second-hand vehicle with 1,952 sales, which was followed by its long-time rival, the Toyota Hilux, with 1,557 units.

One switch up last month was that the VW Polo overtook its sibling, the Polo Vivo, despite the latter being the cheaper of the two models.

The Polo ended in third place with 1,482 purchases, while the Vivo came fourth with 1,405.

Fifth place went to the Toyota Fortuner, which still holds the distinction of being South Africa’s top-selling used SUV thanks to 725 customers.

The Suzuki Swift followed with 716 sales, and the Toyota Corolla Cross came seventh with 579 units.

Another bakkie – the Isuzu D-Max – secured eighth place thanks to 544 sales, and the Toyota Starlet wasn’t far behind with 520 purchases.

The last entry is another surprise, as the Hyundai i20 overtook the cheaper Hyundai Grand i10 to take the 10th spot with 494 sales.

The increased popularity of the i20 and Polo suggests that consumers are starting to upsize their purchases in the pre-owned space, opting for better B-segment models rather than settling for entry-grade A-segment ones.
