The VW Polo Vivo has been dethroned as South Africa’s best-selling hatchback.
The local favourite was usurped by the Suzuki Swift this February, which sold an impressive 2,508 units.
This is according to a report by The Citizen, based on NAAMSA data.
The Vivo, in contrast, sold 2,026 units, putting the Swift at a substantial lead.
Of course, the Vivo’s respectable figures meant it still placed second ahead of the third entry, the Hyundai Grand i10, which moved 1,368 units.
This was followed by two Toyota models, the Starlet and Vitz, which sold 1,241 and 1,199 units, respectively.
Sixth on the list is the VW Polo with 778 purchases, after which came the Hyundai i20 with 507 sales, and the Suzuki Baleno with 412.
A third Suzuki model broke into the top 10 thanks to the S-Presso and its 334 units, earning it the ninth spot.
Last up is the Renault Kwid, which added 340 to the country’s sales tally.
In total, the top 10 hatchbacks sold a combined 10,723 units, representing 20% of the 53,455 vehicles sold in South Africa last month.
