The VW Polo Vivo has reclaimed its title as the best-selling hatchback in South Africa.
Back in February, the locally-made Vivo was usurped by the Suzuki Swift, but the former was back on top in March thanks to 2,258 sales.
This is according to a report by The Citizen, based on NAAMSA data.
Second place, meanwhile, went to the Hyundai Grand i10 with 1,410 units, while the Swift was right behind with 1,400.
A pair of Toyota models, the Starlet and the Vitz, came fourth and fifth with 1,174 and 931 sales, respectively.
The VW Polo landed in sixth place with 837 units, and the Hyundai i20 wasn’t far behind in seventh with 494 purchases.
Suzuki’s cheapest car, the S-Presso, then came eighth thanks to 457 customers.
Ninth place is a newcomer, as the Indian car brand Tata broke into the top 10 with the Tiago – one of the most affordable cars in South Africa – which sold 426 units.
The final spot in the top 10 went to the Renault Kwid with its 411 units, meaning that the Suzuki Baleno was knocked out of the rankings.
In total, the top 10 hatchbacks sold a combined 9,798 units, representing 16.8% of the 58,060 vehicles sold in South Africa last month.

Note that the Hyundai Grand i10 is sold in both hatchback and sedan formats, but Hyundai does not report body-specific sales figures.
