10 new SUVs you can buy for the price of a used Toyota Corolla Cross

A used Toyota Corolla Cross will set buyers back nearly R400,000 – a price that opens the door to owning any one of several new SUVs and crossovers.

According to AutoTrader’s May 2026 sales data, 644 pre-owned Corolla Cross models were sold in South Africa.

The crossover has gained popularity in South Africa as a fuel-efficient option, especially at a time when petrol and diesel prices have skyrocketed.

It sells for between R420,700 and R569,700, which means the average used Corolla Cross sold last month was not too much cheaper than the base model retails for.

That being said, more South African motorists are flocking towards the used market to buy the crossover in hopes of easing fuel price pressures.

According to last month’s AutoTrader sales figures, the average used Toyota Corolla Cross sold for R390,532.

These units were all relatively new, with an age of two years, having completed slightly less than 30,000km during that time.

When new, the crossover is sold with a 3-year/100,000km warranty and a 90,000km service plan, which will still be in place for the new owners.

That being said, for the same price, or even less, motorists can look to the new-vehicle market for any number of similarly priced vehicles with no mileage on the clock and full after-sales support.
