June 2026 proved to be another great month for South Africa’s new-vehicle industry, which sold a grand total of 54,482 units.
This represents an increase of 7,213 units, or 15.3% compared to the 47,269 units sold in June 2025.
This is particularly notable given that consumer confidence tracked lower in the second quarter of 2026 due to rising fuel costs, high inflation, and broader economic uncertainty.
The number one car brand, as always, was Toyota, which sold 12,417 units over the last 30 days.
This was followed by Suzuki, maintaining its lead over VW with 5,689 sales compared to the latter’s 5,613.
Hyundai came fourth with 2,986 sales, while Ford was fifth with 2,961.
Outside the top five, the Chinese duo of GWM and Chery were neck and neck with 2,608 and 2,602 units, respectively.
Isuzu moved up two spots to claim eighth place with 2,121 units, and Jetour came ninth thanks to 2,054 customers.
Last but not least is Mahindra, which placed ahead of Kia to claim the 10th spot with 1,669 units.
Last month, roughly 47,368 units (86.9%) were attributed to dealer sales, while 7.8% went to the rental industry.
Another 2.8% went to the government, and the remaining 2.5% were scooped up by corporate fleets.
Passenger car sales reached 38,393 units, marking a year-on-year increase of 5,882 units or 18.1% from June 2025.
Light commercial vehicles recorded a gain of 1,016 units (8.4%) to reach 12,115.
Unfortunately, vehicle exports declined by 6.9% over the same period, dropping from 36,377 to 33,879 units.
