The Suzuki superbikes you can buy in South Africa

Suzuki is the motorbike brand of 2020, based on the results of this year’s MotoGP season.

MotoGP is the “Formula 1” of motorbike racing, and was dominated by the factory Suzuki team this year.

Suzuki rider Joan Mir won the MotoGP championship, with his teammate Alex Rins taking third spot.

While the bikes used in MotoGP races are not made for the road, the championship carries with it the same prestige that Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari draw on from their Formula 1 victories.

In honour of Suzuki’s success this year, we have detailed the new Suzuki superbikes you can buy in South Africa below.

Suzuki GSX-R750 – R175,500

The Suzuki GSX-R750 is the starting option among the brand’s “super sport” bikes, and features a 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled 750cc engine.

The bike weighs a total of 190kg and stopping power is provided by disc brakes on the front and rear.

Suzuki has fitted a 180/55 tyre on the rear and a 120/70 tyre on the front, while the fuel tank can hold 17 litres.

The company said the bike features excellent throttle response, linear power delivery, strong braking, and top handling.

Suzuki GSX-R1000A – R242,500

The next model in the line-up is the Suzuki GSX-R1000A, which features a 999cc 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine.

The bike weighs 202kg and packs a 16-litre fuel tank, along with disc brakes on the front and rear.

Power is put down through a 6-speed constant mesh transmission to a 190/55 tyre on the rear and a 120/70 tyre on the front.

“It is a machine designed to turn a simple expression of what really matters – run, turn, stop – into the powerful combination of acceleration, cornering, and braking that makes this the most awesome GSX-R ever produced,” said Suzuki.

Top speed is rated at 305 km/h.

Suzuki GSX-R1000RA – R273,900

Suzuki’s range-topper in this category is the GSX-R1000RA.

It features a 999cc 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which is paired to a 6-speed constant mesh transmission.

Total weight comes in at 203kg, with disc brakes stopping a 190/55 tyre on the rear and a 120/70 tyre on the front.

Like its slightly-cheaper sibling, its fuel tank is also 16 litres.

“The newest GSX-R1000RA is built using the latest state-of-the-art technology to embody those fundamentals into the powerful combination of acceleration, cornering, and braking,” said Suzuki.

Top speed is rated at 305 km/h.
