The 23-seater Toyota Coaster bus recently launched in South Africa.
This 5.5-tonne vehicle measures 6,990mm long, 2,080mm wide, and 2,635mm tall – and costs R899,900.
As it can seat 22 passengers and 1 driver, this makes it one of the best deals in the country, in terms of rand-spent-per-seat.
Another noteworthy feature of the Coaster is its Toyota Connect in-car telematics program, which in conjunction with the MyToyota app allows owners to check the health of the vehicle battery, call for roadside assistance, manage services, and share its location.
Toyota Connect also acts as a digital logbook for fleet management and monitoring the driving habits of the driver.
Engine
Powering the Toyota Coaster is a 4.0-litre, inline-four, turbo-diesel engine.
It delivers 100kW at 3,000rpm and 353Nm at 1,600rpm, and pairs with a five-speed manual transmission.
The powertrain drives the rear wheels only, and a 95-litre fuel tank has been fitted for longer range.
The market
While the Coaster does not compete at all with passenger vehicles, it is interesting to see what you can get for the same amount of money.
Below, we listed a range of five-seater vehicles that you can buy for roughly the same price as the new Toyota Coaster.
