How much you will pay per month to own a Toyota GR Yaris

The toughest decisions you will make when buying a Toyota GR Yaris is what colour you want it in and, of course, if an R11,400 per month finance payment fits your budget.

Toyota offers the GR Yaris in two versions in South Africa, starting at a bit over R600,000.

Both pack a 1.6-litre, turbocharged, three-cylinder petrol engine which puts out 198kW and 360Nm – along with a specialised four-wheel-drive system.

This takes the car from 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds, and to a top speed of 230km/h.

The Rally version then adds a limited slip differential, upgraded wheels and tyres, a tuned suspension, and several other cool features.

This includes a heads-up display and synthetic leather and suede seats.

Monthly instalments

To work out how much you will pay per month in instalments when buying a GR Yaris on a vehicle finance plan, we looked at both models available.

The GR-Four’s price of R606,600 was placed into the calculation below.

  • Car Price – R606,600
  • Payment Term – 60 terms (5 years)
  • Interest – 9%
  • Deposit – 10%
  • Balloon – No balloon payment
  • Extras – No optional extras

This produces a monthly finance instalment of R11,400. Total interest paid over the agreement is R134,300.

We also calculated the payments on the GR-Four Rally model.

  • Car Price – R715,600
  • Payment Term – 60 terms (5 years)
  • Interest – 9%
  • Deposit – 10%
  • Balloon – No balloon payment
  • Extras – No optional extras

The result is a monthly finance payment of R13,400 per month. Total interest paid over the agreement is R158,400.

It must be noted that the monthly payments listed above do not include vehicle insurance and fuel costs.

Insurance on a high-performance vehicle like the GR Yaris can cost owners several thousand rand per month, while petrol usage can reach similar levels.

I suspect GR Yaris owners will also go through tyres a lot quicker than the average driver, which will need to be budgeted for.
