The Land Cruiser 300 is Toyota’s new flagship SUV, and it’s now available in South Africa.
The Land Cruiser 300 range starts at R1,283,200 for the GX-R trim, and goes up to R1,842,900 for the off-road-focused GR Sport specification.
Despite the large price difference, every Land Cruiser 300 is fitted with a high grade of standard equipment as part of its spot at the top of the Toyota line-up.
Across the range, the 300 offers LED headlights with DRL, keyless entry and start, climate control with rear seat vents, an electrically-adjustable driver’s seat, all-round parking sensors, integrated navigation, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The entry-level GX-R then comes with fabric seats, whereas the more expensive specifications have leather upholsteries.
Upgrading to either the ZX or GR Sport trims also sees power-fold-down third-row seats, an electric tailgate, a heated steering wheel, seat heating and ventilation for the first and second rows, a wireless charger, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a 14-speaker JBL sound system, and a multi-terrain monitor connected to a 360-degree camera added.
The more luxury-focused ZX then gets a Wi-Fi enabled rear-seat entertainment system, while the GR Sport is fitted with an electric kinetic dynamic suspension system to enhance its off-road capabilities.
“Both variants also feature additional drive select modes and a Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system for superior vehicle control,” said Toyota.
Powering the Land Cruiser 300 is either a 3.5-litre, V6, twin-turbo petrol engine, or a 3.3-litre, V6, turbo-diesel motor.
The petrol motor produces 305kW and 650Nm, and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 12.1l/100km.
The diesel engine generates 225kW and 700Nm, and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 8.9l/100km.
Both specifications pair with a new 10-speed automatic transmission with low-range functionalities, and both reach a top speed of 210km/h.
Regardless of the engine, the Land Cruiser 300 has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500kg, a cargo capacity of 1,967 litres in five-seater mode, and a ground clearance of 235mm that allow it to go nearly anywhere.
